About Your Presenter:  Shelly Klutz, BSN, RN, NCSN has been a school nurse for Watauga County Schools for 12 years and served as Lead Nurse since January 2012. Throughout her school nurse career she has provided nursing services to elementary and high school students including students will special needs.

Shelly graduated with her ADN from Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute in 2006. She earn her BSN from Lees McRae College and became a Nationally Certified School Nurse in 2009. She serves on her schools systems Heart of the Pioneer Planning Committee, Reproductive Health Curriculum Review Committee, and Watauga High School HOSA -Future Health Professionals Adviser. Shelly is a member of the Watauga Compassionate Community Initiative Steering Committee, State Of the Child - State of the Community Planning Committee, Watauga Substance Abuse and Prevention Coalition Committee as well as the President Elect for the Northwest Region of the North Carolina School Nurse Association. She has been a Supporting-Author with High Country Magazine, Children’s Activity Page and Health Education and has served as a Dove Positive Self Esteem Cadre over the past three years.

Presentation Description:  Confident Me! is a 1 session and 5 session self esteem program for middle school students. It uses skills-based health education and focuses on:
· Challenging unrealistic sociocultural ideals of appearance
· Media literacy with respect to these ideals
· Reducing appearance comparisons and appearance conversations
· Encouraging body activism and positive behavior change

This session will bring awareness and education to the free program for any middle school interested in using it. Participants will participate in engaging activities to learn more about the program and support and incentives around implementing it in their school community.
