Description: This innovative service-learning initiative combines meaningful community service experiences with academic learning.  In the fall semester of 2005, professors in physical education, history, Spanish, health, theatre, business, and elementary education embarked on the exciting challenge of incorporating service-learning within their coursework. This presentation will provide insight into the implementation of service-learning within the physical education teacher education (PETE) program.  Coastal Carolina University candidates will share their experiences of working with students in a variety of schools within a local school district. The uniqueness of the Wellness Activities & Lifestyle Knowledge (WALK) mentoring component incorporated within the Elementary physical education methods course will be highlighted By Dr. Nelson.  Alignment of the WALK program with candidate preparation according to the guidelines set forth by the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) will be discussed.
