Description: Experience a hybrid approach to promoting physical literacy!  This approach combines three instructional models: Sport Education, Tactical Games & Teaching Personal-Social Responsibility into one “tribrid” model.

Background: Hybridization, combining complementary aspects of models, represents a practical way to translate theory into real world application, allowing teachers to the reap benefits of individual models while taking a more integrated, holistic path to physical literacy for all. To that end, we intend to:
  • Objective 1: After attending this , the attendees will be able to describe and value the fundamental features of the three research-verified foundational models (SE, TGfU, and TPSR) that comprise the hybrid model. Presenters will interactively highlight features of each model by engaging participants in a brief discussion to activate prior knowledge, draw on participants’ perspectives and experiences, as well as to reveal a need and cast a vision for the hybrid model, which is designed to promote physical literacy.
  • Objective 2: Explain how the hybrid model combines and applies the complementary features of each fundamental model to promote physical literacy. Presenters will systematically illustrate this hybrid model, while highlighting aspects of the fundamental models, via participant engagement using multimedia presentation and interactive discussion.   Teaching strategies, instructional materials and assessments will be utilized throughout to exhibit how the hybrid model can be implemented and evaluated.
  • Objective 3: Apply the hybrid model in their own PE programs to enhance the physical literacy of their students. In conclusion, participants will interact with the presenters and one another to discuss potential modifications to and implementation strategies for the hybrid model. This process will culminate in the development of an action plan, whereby participants will create a series of steps to implement the hybrid model in their own PE programs.
